Running Toward a Better Version of Ourselves

At the 2025 Vancouver Sun Run, Vancouver ShengMi took on a 10 km journey through the city, turning our April theme into every step we took.

Event Recap

A Bright Footnote to April

In April 2025, Vancouver ShengMi launched our monthly theme: Care for yourself and become a better version of yourself.

There was no single way to answer this theme. Some members chose regular exercise. Some finished a book they had wanted to read for a long time. Some worked patiently on a personal creative project. And some brought their goal to one of Vancouver's most energetic spring traditions: the Vancouver Sun Run.

On April 27, 2025, members of Vancouver ShengMi joined the Vancouver Sun Run, a 10 km race through the heart of the city.

Route

Through the City

The route began near Burrard and Georgia, passed through the West End and the English Bay waterfront, continued along Beach Avenue and Pacific Avenue, crossed the Burrard Street Bridge, and then carried runners through South False Creek, Mount Pleasant, and Science World before finishing near BC Place.

It was a long route, but also a beautiful one: ocean views, city streets, bridges, cheering crowds, and all the quiet moments when each person had to tell themselves, keep going.

April Theme

Care for yourself and become a better version of yourself.

10 km

A city route through downtown, the seawall, the bridge, and the finish line.

Every Pace Counts

Running, walking, steady effort, and the courage to reach the finish line.

What It Meant

Showing Up for Ourselves

For us, the Sun Run was more than a race. It became a bright little footnote to our April theme. Caring for ourselves is not always just a gentle thought; sometimes, it is choosing to show up, breathe deeply, and take the next step.

Becoming a better version of ourselves does not mean becoming perfect overnight. It means moving forward, little by little, with patience, courage, and strength.

The sun was bright. The city was beautiful. And somewhere along those 10 kilometres, we each moved a little closer to the person we hoped to become.

The 10K Route

The Vancouver Sun Run website provides the official 10K course map. We kept a route-map image here as a visual reminder of the path: downtown streets, English Bay, Burrard Street Bridge, False Creek, Science World, and the finish near BC Place.
