Singing Our Voices Together

For those who love Zhou Shen, it is hard not to be moved by the power of voice. So we wanted to try singing with our own voices too.

Event Recap

Learning to Sing Together

Our voices may not be perfect. They may not always sound professional. But they are sincere, full of effort, and filled with the courage to become a little better each time.

Vancouver ShengMi held a free choir class, and we were very lucky to have wonderful people guiding us. Joanna brought professional musical support. Tutu led us through vocal practice and helped us feel the melody. Xiaofan added a gentle and beautiful touch to the music through the guzheng.

Choir Practice

Listening, Adjusting, Trusting

From breathing and pitch to rhythm and harmony, choir singing is not as simple as it looks. One person's voice can fly freely, but for many voices to truly come together, we need to listen, adjust, trust, and find our shared rhythm.

During practice, there were off-key moments, laughter, missed beats, and small bits of chaos. But there were also moments when everything suddenly came together.

We Are Trying

Every breath, every note, and every restart is part of learning.

We Are Improving

Sometimes the melody settles, the voices blend, and we realize we can do this.

We Are Happy

Joy came not from perfection, but from singing together.

What Stayed

A Warm Gathering Around Sound

This class was more than a music lesson. It was a warm gathering built around sound, effort, and companionship.

We first came together because of Zhou Shen's voice, and through each practice, we slowly began to hear one another's voices too.

We may still be far from any big stage, but every time we sing, every time we try, and every time we finish a song together, we grow a little more as Vancouver ShengMi.

We have also formed the Vancouver ShengMi Choir. You are warmly welcome to join us and share this joy with us.
